Calacatta Viola marble backsplash and quartz counter with a window over the sink looking into the garden

The kitchen

Calacatta Viola, wall to wall, with a window over the sink that looks straight into the garden.

The marble is the reason this room exists. It is a white Italian stone with plum and rust veining running through it, and it was run up the full height of the wall rather than stopped at a backsplash, so the veining reads as one piece. The counters are quartz, which is the practical half of the arrangement. You can put a hot pan down and nobody will mind.

The cabinetry is white oak and the room runs open to the living room, so whoever is cooking is still in the conversation.

Cooking here

This is a kitchen you can genuinely cook in, not a kitchenette with a kettle. Cooktop, oven, microwave and dishwasher. A full fridge and freezer with an ice maker. An air fryer and a rice cooker in the cabinets. Knives that are sharp, a full set of pots and pans, and enough glassware and dinnerware for six without anyone drinking out of a mug.

The tap runs through reverse osmosis filtration, so the drinking water is filtered at the sink and there is no need for bottles.

Coffee and matcha

Espresso machine, grinder, French press and matcha whisk set out along the marble counter

There is a proper setup on the counter rather than a pod machine. An espresso machine with a milk frother, a burr grinder, a French press and a pour over. Beside it, a matcha station with a whisk and a bowl.

Coffee, tea and matcha are stocked for you. If you run out, or you want something specific in for your arrival, say so and it will be there.

Step by step for the espresso machine, the grinder and everything else in here lives in how things work. A few things worth making in this kitchen are in recipes.

Where to shop

There is good food within walking distance and better food a short drive away. The bakeries, the grocers and where to go for dinner are all on the neighborhood page, including the gluten free options.
